Over 3.000 Perm students send letters to soldiers.
Over 3,000 Perm students find their own ways to show support to soldiers in the armed forces through a Letter to a Soldier contest. A 2-week long letter-writing campaign took place in October involving senior students of 32 Perm schools. Three most active classes and 30 individual letters will be recognized with prizes at the Awards Ceremony on October 10 (House of Officers, 59 Sibirskaya str., 4 pm).
Student messages to soldiers are simple and yet the notes might echo what so many here at home are thinking. Warm words of support will show the soldiers that their service is highly appreciated and that they are greatly missed at home. "It's really going to bring the moral up for them. It's going to let them know that people back home are thinking of them and standing behind them," organizers say. Students decorated their letters with drawings, poems, hand made work, stories, picturesб etc. All the letters will be sent to different military bodies where Perm townsmen serve.
The contest was organized by the Perm City Administration Youth Policy Committee along with the youth NGO Vektor Druzhbi (Friendship Vector).
The first letter-writing campaign took place in May 2008. Perm students showed such great interest that the organizers decided to arrange a second one in fall 2008.
